Web site: http://hagarinternational.org/

Hagar is a Christian organization that is committed to restoring the lives of the extremely disadvantaged in society, women, mothers and children whom have been victims of domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The organization’s purpose is singular; it is “to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to restore broken lives”.

With programs in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Cambodia, Hagar International draws on 20 years of operational experience. Hagar International has developed an innovative model of care, addressing the need for comprehensive psychosocial support and sustainable livelihood development through social enterprise businesses.

Hagar Vietnam was launched in 2009 in response to the growing magnitude of violence and human trafficking in Vietnam, as well as the severe lack of services available for victims.  Hagar’s social enterprise partners, JOMA Bakery Café and several of the five star hotels in Hanoi, provide empowering work placement for clients graduating from Hagar’s programs. Hagar Vietnam has stringent staff educational requirements including continuing education.

The Project: Funds raised will go towards training first response counselors, total$10,000.

Quynh Hoa Vocational Centre

Founded in 2007, Quynh Hoa Centre located in Tri Thanh (Hanoi), has helped hundreds of persons with disabilities. Many of them still suffer from the consequences of Agent Orange or Herbicide Orange (HO). Over the time Quynh Hoa Centre has provided professional training to all its users, teaching them a skill so they can gain independence and also integrate themselves into society.

The Centre now serves about 100 people and consists of children, teenagers and adults. All have a special taste for art, which makes the Centre known in competitions and art events that take place in Hanoi. All maintenance and salary workers is derived primarily from sales of products manufactured in Quynh Hoa Centre. Despite being recognized by the government, receiving numerous awards and visitations, the Quynh Hoa Centre receives no other financial investment, which has caused some difficulties for the execution of its activities.

Currently the biggest difficulty faced by Qynh Hoa Centre is in regards to the maintenance of the roof. The weather has deteriorated rapidly the structure of the ceiling, and when it rains the interior of the rooms are seriously affected. Likewise applies to the cold weather.  One Heart for Healing, a Brazilian non-profit, is on site and will oversee this project.

The Project: Funds raised will go towards repairing the roof, total $7,000.
